What is a Poem?
(Collective thoughts from Poetry Workshop with Naomi Shihab Nye at the Geneva Writers' Conference 2012)
Poems live in trees
in bags under our eyes
between head and fingers.
Poems are words
on a canvas (in the Caribbean, Africa),
are nomads, complex little organisms.
Poems are seeds of
black and white photos.
Poems are hidden in deep recesses
of our memories, are music of languages.
Poems are beyond space and time.
A poem is a large, clown suit,
music from everyone around us.
